The Mr Men and Little Miss Team at Silverstone
The first adidas Half Marathon was held on 2nd March 2003 on the track at Silverstone and attracted over 6,000 runners. This was the first event organised by the London Marathon to take place outside the capital and offered the opportunity to compete on a track steeped in motor racing history, having played host to legends such as Fangio, Senna and Mansell since its inception as a race track in 1948.
The adidas Silverstone Half Marathon is now an established fixture in the athletics calendar. For thousands of people, it has become an ideal and unmissable way to prepare for the Virgin London Marathon a month later.
The London event saw a total field of 9,500 runners with our team always easy to spot in our trademark Mr Happy and Mr Tickle running vests, only made possible by the generous support we received from Chorion Rights Limited.
Every runner is a star in our eyes and deserving of our deepest gratitude. The motivation and determination required for preparation and training, with runners pounding the streets in often wet and cold conditions is awe-inspiring. Whilst completing 13.1 miles is a huge personal achievement, many runners also let us know that collecting sponsorship monies is almost more demanding. For this, we also like to thank and include runners’ families and friends whose kind sponsorship and encouragement is so important; this support and commitment is so deeply appreciated and vital in raising much needed funds for our fight against the biggest childhood cancer.
We are so grateful for the opportunity, so proud of all our runners and so thrilled with everything that is achieved through the Virgin London Marathon.
