The Mr Men and Little Miss Team in Berlin
A group of runners from one of Germany’s most prestigious athletics clubs, SC Charlottenburg, organised the first Berlin Marathon in 1974 although it was not until 1981 that the race moved from the Grunewald, a big forest, into the city centre of West Berlin. In September 1990, following the collapse of the Berlin Wall, three days before reunification, the course of the Berlin Marathon then led through Brandenburg Gate and both parts of Berlin.
With over 30,000 runners now taking part in this flat and fast loop event, this is a perfect autumnal, international marathon within easy reach of UK runners with our team always easy to spot in our trademark Mr Happy and Mr Tickle running vests, only made possible by the generous support we received from Chorion Rights Limited.
Every runner is a star in our eyes and deserving of our deepest gratitude. The motivation and determination required for preparation and training, with runners pounding the streets in often wet and cold conditions is awe-inspiring. Whilst completing 26.2 miles is a huge personal achievement, many runners also let us know that collecting sponsorship monies is almost more demanding. For this, we also like to thank and include runners’ families and friends whose kind sponsorship and encouragement is so important; this support and commitment is so deeply appreciated and vital in raising much needed funds for our fight against the biggest childhood cancer.
We are so grateful for the opportunity, so proud of all our runners and so thrilled with everything that is achieved through the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON.
