RACE HISTORY
The Royal Parks Foundation, the charity for London's eight Royal Parks, has launched a new Half Marathon in London on Sunday 12 October 2008, starting and finishing in Hyde Park.
The route winds through Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James's Park and along the River Thames amongst avenues of beautiful autumnal trees, taking in superb views of Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Marble Arch, the London Eye and the Royal Albert Hall.
Race day will be for everyone, runners and spectators alike, with a fantastic variety of activities for all the family including the Brakes Food and Fitness Festival, the Charity Village and much, much more. The event is as green and environmentally friendly as possible and it is hoped that the Half Marathon will help people to focus on and celebrate the amazing wildlife and heritage of the Royal Parks.
Every runner is a star in our eyes and deserving of our deepest gratitude. The motivation and determination required for preparation and training, with runners pounding the streets in often wet and cold conditions is awe-inspiring. Whilst completing 13.1 miles is a huge personal achievement, many runners also let us know that collecting sponsorship monies is almost more demanding. For this, we also like to thank and include runners’ families and friends whose kind sponsorship and encouragement is so important; this support and commitment is so deeply appreciated and vital in raising much needed funds for our fight against the biggest childhood cancer.
